Stills from a Dream

Of all the different photographic genres I have attempted over the years, I can safely say that pinhole photography is closest to my heart and has allowed me to express myself most deeply and personally.

This book is a labor of love for me. It contains over 40 black and white pinhole photographs created with my digital Fujifilm X T1 camera and a pierced body cap. No lens was used. The resulting pictures have a surreal, almost ghostly atmosphere. The photographs themselves inspired the short stories that accompany them.

Home on the Road

For almost a decade, my wife Linda and I planned to live on the road in a motorhome. We held fast to that idea and made it a reality in the summer of 2014. As a landscape photographer, of course, it is a dream come true. Documented here in stark black and white is the first six months of that journey. I've had access I've never had before to some amazing vistas, getting up close and personal with Mother Nature outside typical tourist-packed months. During sunrise at the Grand Canyon, for example, I shared that spectacle with just four other people. The emotion I felt there and elsewhere, I hope, is what I have captured in this book.

Fifty Female Faces

I had been looking for a project that would unify all I had learned about the art and craft of portraiture. I decided to do this book and give myself a year to complete it. When it comes to people, I prefer to photograph women. I find women deeply beautiful and complex. I didn't want the book to just be about portraits, I wanted to go much deeper and capture an inner beauty that goes counter to the attitude of today's media. I believe I found that essence in the fifty faces presented in this book.
